About Ceramic Coatings

The Full Story

Ceramic coatings are one of the most ultimate forms of protection, it is the result of decades of research, development and field experience in and outside of the detailing industry,  protecting vehicles of all types, inside and out.
It is a well known product that makes use of a few chemicals: Silica, graphene , kelvar and/or metal oxide technology (to name a few) and chemically fuses with the clear coat/surface of  your vehicle- leaving it slick/hydrophobic and provides a layer of defense that is more glossy, dirt resistant,  longer-lasting option compared to a traditional wax containing carnauba, beeswax  and/or other polymers. Our Ceramic Coating is backed by a 1,2,3 or 5-year warranty depending on product applied. The ceramic coating can be applied to your paint, rims, plastic molding, headlights and interior vinyl, leather, plastics for maximum protection.

Yes, coatings are long-lasting and durable, but that doesn’t mean you can do whatever you want with your vehicle and think the coating will protect it.

It has its limitations and it’s important to understand the limitations of what the ceramic coating can handle. Too many times we see customers overthink the protection aspect of the coating and are then disappointed when they see scratches, rock chips, etchings or other defects in the paintwork.

1. The coating will not make your paint scratch-proof. When we say the coating will resist light swirls and scratches, we genuinely mean very light swirls and scratches that might be induced when properly washing or drying the vehicle.

2. The coating will not protect your paint from rock chips. The only real option that can protect your paint from rock chips will be paint protection film (PPF). No matter how many layers you apply, whether it’s wax or ceramic coating, it cannot stop the impact of a rock hitting your vehicle.

3. The coating requires maintenance to prolong the durability. Just like many other things in life, if you don’t care for the coating, it will degrade overtime and not last it’s intended lifespan.

Why should I trust Chrome Star detailing to install my ceramic coating?
There’s many variables that must be considered during the application process; The type/brand of ceramic coating, prepping the surface correctly, the weather/temperature its being applied in, wiping/leveling it down/off properly etc.
If it’s not properly installed, you’ll clearly see where the ceramic coating was applied incorrectly on the paint/surface. And will generally need to be compounded/polished to remove.
Although we recommend applying the coating at our detail shop in Fletcher, NC. We are able to come to you & apply our 1,2,3 year ceramic in the right conditions/under the canopy that we bring.

                                                                              Ceramic Coating FAQ

- Can I wash my car after the coating is installed?

Once the coating is applied, the vehicle should not get wet for the first 48 hours so it can fully cure. After that, you should not wash your vehicle for the first one to two weeks. After that we recommend hand washing depending on the vehicles storge conditions/ how much its driven.

- Can I just get the coating installed without the prep work or paint correction?

We mostly do not apply coatings to vehicles that have not gone through both, the proper prep (stripping old wax. oils, iron, clay bar) and paint correction as you will have the best benefits of a coating with the proper prep. The paint polishing/scratch removal step can be skipped depending the paintwork/surface & customers acknowledgement.
